Wedding venue in Dordogne France|Explore the area
Chateau de la Valouze is a wedding venue located at the western end of Dordogne, a top tourist destination and one of the sunniest parts of France’s South western coast. Here are a few recommendations of things to see in Dordogne.
Share a local drink with your loved one in La Roche Chalais
Just a couple of kilometers away, within walking distance, there is the village of la Roche Chalais. There, you will find all the local conveniences you may wish to use : a big supermarket, nice shops, nice food and restaurants… We may even recommend a bakery that makes excellent croissants !
The area is also known for its local drink : Pineau de Charente. It is a fortified wine made from either fresh, or lightly fermented grape, to which a Cognac eau-de-vie is added and then matured. To be served with lots of ice !
The little town is crossed by the Dronne, a sub-tributary of the Dordogne, the river that flows through the region of the same name. The Dordogne is the purest and cleanest river in France. If you ever get bored with the pool at the Chateau, you know what you have to do !
Treat your guests to Perigord gastronomy
The Dordogne valley is packed with medieval villages, some of which are listed among the most beautiful in France. We highly recommend Bergerac, which is an hour’s drive from Château de la Valouze. The town’s historical center is lovely. There’s even an airport at Bergerac, with a number of cities departing from the UK, among others.
Périgord is the old name for the Dordogne, but the French still call it that way. The Perigord is well-known for its lush countryside, its medieval villages and its gastronomy ! Wine and cheese, but also foie gras, fine meats, truffles, porcini mushrooms… Any restaurant in the region serves delicious food.
